System Dumps generation in AIX

Posted by madeeswer 2487 days ago (Editorial)

System dumps are taken to get a clear picture of systems utilization at that exact moment.

Normally system dumps are taken along with the java heap dump and thread dump for getting a clear picture about the system.

following are the steps to generate system dumps,

1.  Login  as root user

2. generate gencore file

By default if you change the ownership or group name of a symbolic soft link then the orginal file will get affected. The orginal files user name and group name will be changed but the soft links owner name and group name will reamin the same.

In order to change the soft links owner name and group name we need to use '-h' option

chown -h test:test

In order to recursively search a string or pattern in Linux we can use '-r' option.

grep -lre “Error” /opt/*

-r will recursively search all the files and folder under the specified location.

AIX or Solaris or Unix:

AIX or Solaris or Unix version of grep command does not have the sophisticated '-r' option.
